Greener days - Our journey so far.
Here at Locke, we give people the freedom to stay their way and to travel as they live – which means embodying the sustainable values that are so important to today’s travellers. Our room keys unlock much more than just a place to sleep: we want Locke to be a place where you can connect with yourself, the community, and even the planet.
Sure, travel isn’t guilt-free. We know we’ve got work to do in protecting our people and planet. But we’re committed to learning and growing so that, together, we can imagine and create a more thoughtful, conscientious way to travel and live like a local.
We’ve come a long way…
We’ve made great headway since we set out on our sustainability journey. For example, at Turing Locke – rated ‘excellent’ by BREEAM – we use solar panels to generate power onsite, a heat-recovery air-conditioning system, and our landscaped outdoor spaces are designed as wildlife habitats and a space for the community.
On a social level, in 2022 we hosted over 2,200 cultural activations at our Locke properties – from weekly events including running clubs and yoga, to ad-hoc activities like seasonal craft workshops. Across our business, we actively welcome ideas from both our team and guests – through internal channels and our guest feedback survey – on how we can become more sustainable.
And we’re not done yet.
We want to understand our impact on the environment, because that’s the only way we can improve. We’re ramping up our data collection, so we can use it as a starting point to set targets and track our progress in reducing resource-consumption and carbon emissions.
Here at Locke, we create communities. We believe our activities can – and should – have a positive impact on everyone in our universe, so we’re working strategically with our stakeholders to make sure we always prioritise the wellbeing of people.
We also know our credibility relies on high standards of governance and transparency. That’s why we’re taking a structured approach to sustainability, so we can objectively and comprehensively monitor and communicate our progress.
